Kano Court Orders Popular TikTokers to Marry Within 60 Days Over ‘Indecent’ Video

A Magistrate Court in Kano has ordered two popular TikTok content creators, Idris Mai Wushirya and Basira Yar Guda, to marry within 60 days following their involvement in viral videos authorities described as “indecent” and contrary to public morals.
Trial Magistrate Halima Wali gave the ruling on Monday after the pair appeared before the court over the videos, which the Kano State Films and Video Censorship Board said violated the state’s cultural and religious codes.
The court further directed the Kano State Hisbah Board to facilitate the marriage ceremony, warning that failure to comply within the stipulated period would amount to contempt of court.
The Chairman of the Kano State Films and Video Censorship Board was also mandated to supervise the enforcement of the order.
The two TikTokers were earlier arraigned for allegedly producing and sharing obscene content online.
Mai Wushirya had been remanded in a correctional facility after clips of him engaging in what officials termed “immoral and demeaning acts” with Yar Guda went viral.
The Kano State Films and Video Censorship Board said the duo’s conduct contravened state laws prohibiting the creation and distribution of sexually suggestive material.
The court’s ruling has since stirred widespread debate across social media, with many Nigerians questioning the legal and moral basis of compelling adults to marry as punishment for alleged indecency.
