Troops Record Major Success in Borno, Recover ₦4.7 Million, Weapons from Fleeing Terrorists

Troops of the Joint Task Force, North East Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have achieved another significant victory in the ongoing campaign against insurgency, following a fierce encounter with terrorists along the Maiduguri–Damboa Road in Borno State.
The incident occurred on October 18, 2025, when soldiers from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Molai were conducting a routine patrol on the Main Supply Route (MSR) between Maiduguri and Damboa. The troops reportedly spotted a group of insurgents riding bicycles near Masta Fanameri.
Upon sighting the approaching soldiers, the terrorists hastily fled into the nearby forest, abandoning several items. A thorough search of the area led to the recovery of ₦4,770,000 in cash, six brand-new Tecno mobile phones, bicycles, solar panels, bags of garri, lamps, and other logistical materials believed to belong to the fleeing insurgents.
The soldiers subsequently launched a pursuit operation to track down the suspects, though no further contact was established.
In a separate but related operation, troops under the 26 Task Force Brigade and 222 Battalion of OPHK carried out coordinated offensives in Gwoza and Konduga Local Government Areas. During the encounters, two terrorists were neutralized, while troops seized two AK-47 rifles, loaded magazines, grenades, terrorist uniforms, and motorcycles.
Additionally, the troops intercepted a truck transporting 170 empty gas cylinders, suspected to be part of the insurgents’ logistics network.
The interception, according to military authorities, dealt a major blow to the terrorists’ supply chain.
The Nigerian Army reiterated its resolve to maintain the momentum of counterterrorism efforts under Operation Desert Sanity IV, an intensified phase of operations aimed at restricting terrorist movements and safeguarding critical supply routes across the North East.
The military further assured residents of its continued dedication to restoring lasting peace and stability to Borno and other parts of the region affected by insurgency.
