Nigerian Journalist Attempts to Create Guinness World Record with 72-Hour Interview Marathon

Nigerian journalist Livinus Chibuike Victor aims to make history as he initiates a groundbreaking attempt to surpass the Guinness World Record for longest marathon interviewing by 72 hours and 30 minutes of non-stop interviewing.

The event, with the title “Nigeria, Our Strength,” will be held from April 17 to April 20, 2025, at Abuja’s Central Business District’s Harrow Park Golf Club. This is not just a personal feat but also an opportunity for Victor to showcase press freedom, national unity, and the power of Nigerian journalism.

Victor, a winner of several awards for his work in the media industry in Abuja, stated that the marathon represents both his vocation as a professional and dedication to the power of discourse in remodeling society.

“This is not about breaking a record whatsoever. It is about unveiling the power of our voice, the depth of our stories, and the power of perseverance,” he said.

The activity is backed by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council, Chairperson Grace Ike of which promised to support the activity. She pointed out that press freedom is a cornerstone of democracy and praised Victor’s acts as an excellent imprint of journalistic courage.

In order to physically and mentally condition himself for this arduous accomplishment, Victor has undergone weeks of intense conditioning such as resilience activities, meditation, and endurance tests. Support staff and health professionals will be on hand during interview sessions to monitor his hydration levels, eating habits, and overall mental alertness.

Victor’s record attempt contributes to a rapidly burgeoning trend of Nigerians attempting to make Guinness World Records in different categories — from crocheting and cooking to smile marathons — that capture the spirit of the country as being cheerful and persevering.

Looking into the distance, Victor has hinted at greater ambitions to come, including a potential interview in Antarctica, solidifying his commitment to shattering the barriers of reporting and storytelling.

With the clock ticking down, all eyes are on Abuja, where journalism and endurance are about to collide in a powerful display of Nigerian determination.
