Group Urges DSS, Police to Investigate Gov Otti Over ‘Write Their Will’ Remark

A socio-political organisation, the Abia Renaissance Group (ARG), has urged the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force to investigate Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, over a recent statement allegedly made concerning the 2027 governorship election in the state.

In a statement issued on Friday by Kelechi Uwakwe and Emma Nwangwu, the group’s chairman and secretary respectively, ARG said it had formally petitioned security agencies, warning that the governor’s comment could be interpreted as a threat capable of inciting political tension and endangering peace in Abia State.

According to the group, Otti was quoted as saying that “anyone planning to contest against him in 2027 should first write their will,” a remark they described as reckless, undemocratic, and unbecoming of a sitting governor.

“We consider such a statement a direct threat to lives and a violation of the principles of democracy. No one, regardless of status, should be above the law,” the group stated.

The Abia Renaissance Group maintained that while Otti has the right to seek re-election, he must do so within the bounds of civility and respect for democratic norms, rather than resorting to comments that could instill fear or intimidate political opponents.

They further called on the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the DSS Director-General, Yusuf Bichi, to launch an immediate investigation into the matter to ensure accountability and forestall any breakdown of law and order.

The group emphasized that Abia people have a right to a peaceful and transparent political environment, free from intimidation, adding that “the rule of law must prevail at all times.”

Governor Otti has yet to publicly respond to the group’s allegations as of the time of filing this report.
