Wike: Governors Who Criticised Me Are Now in APC

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, says several governors who once criticised him for his political decisions have now joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Wike made the remark on Tuesday during the flag-off of a major road construction project in Abuja. He said recent defections from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC vindicate his earlier political stance and prove that his actions were based on conviction rather than personal interest.

“Some of those who were shouting and abusing me then are now in APC. That is politics for you. I don’t regret my decisions because I stand for what is right,” Wike stated.

The former Rivers State governor, who served two terms under the PDP, was one of the five governors known as the G5 who opposed the party’s leadership ahead of the 2023 general elections.

His decision to support President Bola Tinubu’s administration later drew criticism from party loyalists who accused him of working against the PDP’s presidential candidate.

Wike said that the current wave of defections shows that many of his critics have come to understand his political choices.

He added that his focus remains on supporting President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and delivering developmental projects across the FCT.

“Those who condemned me for working with President Tinubu can now see that governance is about results. The Renewed Hope Agenda is not about party politics; it is about rebuilding our country,” he said.

Wike also praised Tinubu’s economic reforms, particularly the removal of fuel subsidies, which he said have boosted the financial capacity of state governments and improved their ability to execute development projects.

Recent political developments have seen governors and key figures from opposition parties, including the PDP, crossing over to the APC, with analysts describing the trend as a major realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
