FG Withdraws NYCN Registration, Appoints Interim Committee To Oversee Affairs

The Federal Ministry of Youth Development has announced the withdrawal of the registration certificate of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), citing long-standing leadership and governance issues within the organization.

In a statement dated October 7, 2025, and signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Omolara Esan, the Ministry disclosed that the CAC formally communicated the decision on October 6, 2025.

The action, according to the Commission, was taken pursuant to Sections 8(1)(c) and 8(1)(d) of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020, following an 18-year leadership crisis and serial violations of the NYCN Constitution and CAMA provisions.

The CAC also found irregularities in the Council’s governance practices, prompting the decision to de-recognize all existing claims to leadership, trusteeship, and management within the NYCN.

In line with its statutory powers, the CAC has constituted an Interim Management Committee (IMC) to oversee and manage the Council’s affairs for a period of one year, effective October 6, 2025.

The Federal Ministry of Youth Development, while acknowledging the CAC’s legal authority, urged all youth organizations, stakeholders, and partners of the Council to cooperate fully with the IMC to restore unity, legitimacy, and institutional integrity to the NYCN.

“The Ministry remains firmly committed to ensuring a stable, credible, and inclusive youth governance framework that upholds accountability, transparency, and aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR,” the statement added.
