Power Sector Revenue to Exceed N2trn by End of 2025, Says Adelabu

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has projected that Nigeria’s power sector revenue will surpass N2 trillion by the end of 2025, marking a significant rise from the N1.7 trillion recorded in 2024.
Adelabu disclosed this while speaking on recent reforms aimed at strengthening efficiency and financial sustainability in the electricity supply industry.
He attributed the projected growth to improved billing collection, reduction in technical losses, and the ongoing drive toward cost-reflective tariffs.
According to him, several initiatives implemented by the Federal Government including the metering acceleration program, renewed investments in transmission infrastructure, and the unbundling of the market into state-led regulatory frameworks are already yielding positive results.
“Our target is to ensure that the power sector becomes financially viable and self-sustaining. With the current trajectory, revenue generation will exceed N2 trillion before the end of this year,” Adelabu said.
The minister emphasized that the revenue growth will enable more investment in grid expansion, rural electrification, and renewable energy projects, ultimately improving supply reliability for homes and businesses.
He added that the government remains committed to addressing sectoral challenges such as power theft, inadequate infrastructure, and liquidity gaps that have hindered the sector’s performance over the years.
Adelabu also urged electricity distribution companies (DisCos) to intensify efforts in customer metering and service delivery to consolidate on the progress recorded so far.
