Kane open to Bayern Munich extension, says Premier League return now less likely

England captain Harry Kane has hinted at the possibility of extending his stay at Bayern Munich, admitting that his desire to return to the Premier League has diminished since joining the German champions.
The 32-year-old striker, who has scored 18 goals in 10 matches this season, said he is “fully all in” at Bayern and would be open to talks over a new deal when the time comes.
Kane, who has found the net 103 times in 106 appearances since moving from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023, is currently under contract until 2027.
“In terms of staying longer, I could definitely see that,” Kane told reporters after arriving for England duty ahead of matches against Wales and Latvia.
“I haven’t had those conversations with Bayern yet, but if they were to arise, I would be willing to talk and have an honest conversation.
It depends on how the next year or so goes and what we achieve together.
Right now, I would say we are in a fantastic moment, and I am not thinking about anything else.”
When Kane left Tottenham, it was widely believed he would one day return to England to chase Alan Shearer’s Premier League goalscoring record.
He is currently 48 goals short of Shearer’s 260-goal milestone. However, the Bayern forward admitted that the likelihood of a return has faded.
“If you had asked me when I first left to go to Bayern, I would have said for sure I would come back,” Kane said.
“Now, after a couple of years, that has gone down a little bit, but I wouldn’t say I would never go back.
Different opportunities and timings happen, and things fall in place. But right now, I’m fully focused on Bayern.”
Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund recently described Kane as “probably the best version of Harry Kane there has ever been,” crediting his consistency and leadership since moving to Germany.
Kane, who finally lifted his first major trophy last season when Bayern won the Bundesliga, said the experience has only strengthened his motivation.
“When you win a title like I did last year, maybe it could be easy to go the other way and say, ‘OK, I’ve done what I wanted to achieve,’” he said.
“But it’s given me more motivation to do more and be better. There’s still a lot I want to achieve, in terms of other trophies and bigger trophies for sure.”
Kane reportedly has a £57 million release clause in his Bayern contract, though both club and player have shown little interest in triggering an early exit.
