Jewish Worshipers Rally in Abia, Demand Kanu’s Release

Barely 48 hours after Igbo elders staged a peaceful protest at the Abia State Government House, Umuahia, a large group of Jewish worshipers on Thursday gathered at the Afaraukwu Umuahia family house of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

The worshipers, who arrived from different parts of the South-East, as well as Rivers and Delta States, held an intensive prayer session, seeking divine intervention in Kanu’s ongoing trial and prolonged detention.

Dressed in religious garments and chanting prayers, the group later embarked on a solidarity rally within Umuahia, calling for Kanu’s unconditional release.

They argued that his continued incarceration was unjust and appealed to both the federal government and the judiciary to uphold fairness in his case.

Leaders of the gathering maintained that Kanu’s release would help restore peace in the South-East and strengthen unity among the people.

They also emphasized that their movement was peaceful and faith-driven, not aimed at causing unrest.

The demonstration follows a growing wave of appeals from various groups including traditional leaders, youth organizations, and political figures urging the government to consider releasing the IPOB leader.

Kanu has been in detention since his arrest and extradition in 2021, facing charges bordering on terrorism and treasonable felony, which he continues to deny.
