NANS Warns Against Undermining Dangote Refinery, Says Nation’s Youths Will Resist

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has cautioned the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) against sabotaging the operations of the Dangote Refinery.
NANS President, Olushola Oladoja, emphasized that the refinery’s success is crucial to Nigeria’s economic survival, given its capacity to process 650,000 barrels of crude oil per day, exceeding the country’s daily fuel consumption of approximately 550,000 barrels.
Oladoja urged stakeholders, including NUPENG and the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria, to prioritize national interests over personal gains.
He warned that Nigerian students would fiercely resist any attempts by cartels, groups, or institutions to frustrate the project, stressing that it is a matter of national dignity and economic survival.
The NANS leader praised Aliko Dangote’s investment in the refinery, describing it as a demonstration of his love for Nigeria.
He noted that the project would create thousands of jobs and sustain the economy for generations.
“This is not just about a refinery; it’s about survival, sovereignty, and the dignity of our nation,” Oladoja declared.
The development comes amid a heated dispute between NUPENG and Dangote Refinery.
The union had accused the refinery of violating a Memorandum of Understanding signed on September 9, 2025, which affirmed workers’ right to unionize.
NUPENG claimed that Dangote Refinery ordered truck drivers to remove union stickers and report for loading, an allegation the company denies. Dangote Refinery has dismissed the claims as “cheap blackmail,” insisting that its investment is designed to strengthen Nigeria’s economy.
