Vice President Shettima Departs Abuja for UN General Assembly in New York

Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has departed Abuja for New York, United States, where he will represent President Bola Tinubu at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
The annual gathering of world leaders will hold from September 22 to 28, 2025, and will feature high-level debates on pressing global issues including climate change, economic recovery, and international security.
According to official statements, Shettima is expected to deliver Nigeria’s national address to the UN General Assembly. He will also participate in several key engagements, among them the UN high-level global debates and a special climate event where Nigeria will unveil its updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement.
Beyond the main Assembly sessions, the Vice President will attend bilateral meetings and side events, including a high-level roundtable on adequate and affordable housing hosted by the President of Kenya.
His engagements are aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s global partnerships and advancing national priorities on climate action, economic growth, and sustainable development.
After the UNGA, Shettima is scheduled to travel to Frankfurt, Germany, for a follow-up meeting with officials of Deutsche Bank, before returning to Nigeria.
His trip underscores Nigeria’s commitment to engaging the international community on shared challenges and reaffirming the country’s role in shaping global solutions.
