DAPPMAN Urges FRSC to Probe Dangote’s Road Safety Record Over 4,000 CNG Trucks

The Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) has called on the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to conduct a thorough investigation into the safety record of the Dangote Group, following the rollout of 4,000 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) trucks by the company.
In a statement reported by Channels Television on Wednesday, the association expressed concern over what it described as Dangote’s history of fatal accidents linked to poor driver training and supervision.
DAPPMAN warned that adding thousands of new trucks to Nigeria’s already burdened roads could heighten risks to lives and infrastructure if proper checks are not carried out.
The group acknowledged the importance of Dangote’s move to adopt CNG trucks as a cleaner, more efficient alternative for fuel distribution, but insisted that safety must remain the top priority. It noted that the trucks would be transporting highly flammable petroleum products, stressing that stringent standards must apply.
According to DAPPMAN, corridors such as the Lekki-Epe Expressway are already suffering from congestion and road damage caused by heavy truck traffic. Introducing thousands of additional vehicles, the association argued, could worsen these challenges if drivers and operations are not adequately regulated.
The marketers urged the FRSC and other regulators to carry out a comprehensive audit of Dangote’s transport operations, including driver vetting, retraining, and insurance compliance, before granting approval for the full-scale deployment of the trucks.
The move comes amid heightened tensions between DAPPMAN and Dangote over pricing, competition, and distribution strategies in Nigeria’s oil downstream sector.
While Dangote has promoted its CNG trucks as a way to cut logistics costs and deliver fuel directly to filling stations, industry players insist that public safety and accountability must not be compromised.
