The Nigeria Police Force has unveiled the comprehensive funeral arrangements for the late Dr. Solomon Ehigiator Arase, former Inspector-General of Police, who passed away on August 31, 2025, at the age of 69.

Dr. Arase, the nation’s 18th indigenous IGP, was lauded for his advocacy of police reforms, philanthropy, and exemplary leadership both during and after his service.

According to a communiqué signed by Force Public Relations Officer CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the commemorative events will commence in Abuja on September 24 with a Day of Tribute at the Nigeria Police Resource Centre, Jabi.

A requiem mass is scheduled for September 26 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Maitama. On September 27, a lying-in-state will be held at his Abuja residence, after which the remains will be transported to Benin City, Edo State.

In his hometown of Sabongida-Ora, a candlelight walk is planned for September 29. On October 2, the Edo State Judiciary and the Nigerian Bar Association will convene a valedictory court session at the Edo State High Court, Benin, coinciding with a service of songs at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Airport Road, alongside a family lying-in-state.

The funeral mass is slated for October 3 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, followed by interment at his private residence in Benin City and a reception at the Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub.

The commemorations will culminate in a thanksgiving mass on October 5.

Dr. Arase, who earned a PhD in law and was a recipient of the national honour of CFR, was appointed Inspector-General in April 2015 and served until June 2016.

He departed this life at Cedarcrest Hospital, Abuja, following a brief illness.
