Tinubu Restores Democratic Governance in Rivers State, Reinstates Fubara as Emergency Rule Ends

President Bola Tinubu has announced the end of state of emergency imposed on Rivers State on March 18, 2025, effective midnight.
In a statement bearing his signature, Tinubu expressed his satisfaction with the progress achieved by the state during the emergency rule.
“I am gratified today to learn, based on the intelligence available to me, that there is a burgeoning spirit of understanding, a vigorous readiness, and a fervent enthusiasm among all stakeholders in Rivers State for an immediate transition to democratic governance. This is undeniably a welcome development for me and a noteworthy accomplishment for us. Hence, I see no justification for the continuation of the state of emergency beyond the six-month period initially decreed.
“It is therefore with great pleasure that I proclaim the cessation of the emergency in Rivers State, Nigeria, effective from midnight today. Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Nma Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, including Speaker Martins Amaewhule, will recommence their duties from September 18, 2025.
“I seize this moment to remind Governors and Houses of Assembly across all States of our nation to consistently recognize that it is only within an environment of peace, order, and good governance that we can deliver the dividends of democracy to our citizens. I urge you all to let this understanding guide your actions at all times,” the President proclaimed.
