Rivers: PDP Cautions Fubara Against Defection, Seeks Probe of Interim Administration

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has warned Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, against yielding to overtures from the All Progressives Congress (APC) as he prepares to resume office, urging him instead to remain steadfast with the PDP and commit to restoring stability in the state.

Fubara, who is set to return after six months of suspension under emergency rule, has come under increasing political scrutiny amid reports of efforts by the APC to lure him into its fold.

In separate interviews withDP Deputy National Legal Adviser, Barrister Okechukwu Osuoha, and Deputy National Youth Leader, Timothy Osadolor, stressed that the governor’s comeback should be defined by loyalty, accountability, and reconciliation.

Osuoha said Fubara owed it to the PDP, which produced him, to resist “political inducements and distractions” from rival parties.

He added that a defection would not only undermine the governor’s credibility but also destabilize the PDP in Rivers State.

On his part, Osadolor called for a full-scale investigation into the management of the state during the period of emergency rule, insisting that accountability was critical to restoring public trust.

“Governor Fubara must ensure that every action taken while he was away is thoroughly scrutinized. The people of Rivers deserve to know how their resources were managed in the last six months,” Osadolor stated.

The PDP leaders also urged Fubara to prioritize peacebuilding in the oil-rich state, which has witnessed heightened political tensions and divisions in recent months.

The governor’s expected return marks a significant moment for Rivers politics, with observers watching closely to see how he navigates the renewed tussle for influence between the PDP and APC in the strategic South-South state.
