FG Plans to Complete 130 km Kebbi corridor of Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway next Year, Reveals Umahi

The Minister of Works, Engineer David Umahi, has announced that 130 kilometers of the Kebbi corridor of the Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway will be completed by the end of next year.

Umahi made this statement during an inspection visit to the construction site in Gulumbe town, Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

He remarked, “This is the largest single project in the country, valued at over N1.8 trillion. Such a monumental project is being realized in the North-West alone.”

“The people of the North should commend President Bola Tinubu as a leader who honors his commitments. This project was first envisioned 47 years ago under the administration of the late President Shehu Shagari, but no other leader has endeavored to bring it to fruition until now.”

The Minister lauded President Tinubu for realizing this long-anticipated dream, noting that the promise made before the 2023 general elections is now being fulfilled.

“The President is slated to visit in May 2026, by which time at least 50 kilometers of the road will be completed.

By the end of 2026, we anticipate completing 130 kilometers,” he added.

He also disclosed that President Tinubu had fully sanctioned and released funds for compensation to individuals and communities whose lands were acquired for the project.

“However, payments will only be disbursed after beneficiaries open bank accounts, as the Federal Government seeks to ensure proper tracking of all compensation,” he clarified.

He further praised Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State for his investment in security and agriculture, stating that the governor had provided logistics and security personnel to safeguard the project.

“We are grateful to all the security agencies, the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), and heads of security services for their invaluable support, without which the Renewed Hope Agenda could not succeed,” Umahi said.

In his remarks, the Minister of State for Works, Alhaji Bello Goronyo, described President Tinubu’s vision and commitment as a testament to leadership beyond rhetoric.

According to him, “President Tinubu has exhibited the foresight to actualize this project not just for the North-West, but for the entire country. The road will connect Illela International Market and unlock vast business opportunities along the corridor.

“With a span of about 1,000 kilometers linking Nigeria to Mali, Togo, and other neighboring countries, this is poised to be a transformative development,” he added.

He also commended Umahi for his dedication in advancing the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (North-West), Abdullahi Tanko-Yakasai, also praised Umahi for the progress achieved thus far.

Similarly, the Kebbi State Commissioner for Works and Transportation, Abdullahi Umar-Faruk, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for situating a significant portion of the project within the state.
