Arsenal Eye Rare Anfield Win to Strengthen Premier League Title Quest

Arsenal will travel to Anfield on Sunday knowing that a first league victory at the ground in more than a decade could be pivotal to their Premier League title ambitions.
The Gunners, unbeaten in their last two league fixtures, have built their early-season form on a solid defence, boasting the best record in the division.
Mikel Arteta’s side, however, face a stern test against defending champions Liverpool, who remain unbeaten at home in August since 2015 and have scored in 36 consecutive league games—a run that could stretch to a new record this weekend.
Arsenal’s preparations have been complicated by injuries, with Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz, Martin Ødegaard and Gabriel Jesus either sidelined or doubtful.
The absences may accelerate the introduction of £68 million summer signing Eberechi Eze, who Arteta described as having a “special aura” in training and who is expected to provide much-needed creativity.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot delivered a more positive update, confirming midfielder Alexis Mac Allister had returned to training and reporting no fresh injury concerns in his squad.
He acknowledged Arsenal’s threat, particularly from set-pieces, but insisted his team are fully prepared for the clash.
Recent league encounters between the two clubs at Anfield have often ended in draws, including a 2–2 stalemate last May when Arsenal came from two goals down.
The Gunners are winless in their last 12 league visits to the stadium, their most recent victory coming in 2012.
Overall, Liverpool lead the head-to-head with 95 wins to Arsenal’s 83, while 66 matches have ended level.
Arteta described Sunday’s game as “defining,” stressing that it was about belief as much as league positioning. A positive result would not only enhance Arsenal’s standing in the early title race but also reshape the narrative around their ability to overcome one of English football’s most daunting away grounds.
