Oborevwori Orders Arrest of Armed Youths After Warri Clash

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has ordered security agencies to arrest anyone found with arms in Warri, following a violent clash between Itsekiri and Urhobo youths at Okere Roundabout on Saturday.

The incident, which saw youths exchange gunfire and attack one another, left several people injured and heightened tension in the oil-rich city. Police operatives later intervened, dispersing the groups with tear gas.

In a statement issued through his Executive Assistant on Security Matters, Udoka Chika-dibie, the governor warned against any attempt to reignite ethnic hostilities in the state.

“I am compelled to use this platform to caution all those fanning the flames of conflict in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State,” the statement read. “The administration of His Excellency Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori will not condone unrest among the tribes in that local government.”

The governor reminded residents of the scars left by the 1999 crisis, stressing that Delta State cannot afford a relapse into violence.

He directed security agencies to act decisively, including apprehending or neutralising anyone carrying arms.

“As a state, our focus should be on achieving meaningful accomplishments, not fighting amongst ourselves. We will take all necessary measures to prevent the escalation of tension in the troubled area,” he added.

The state government urged community leaders to cooperate with security operatives in restoring peace and ensuring that the incident does not spiral into a wider conflict.
