Leon Bailey Joins AS Roma on Loan from Aston Villa with €22m Option to Buy
AS Roma have officially signed Jamaican international, Leon Bailey from Aston Villa on a season-long loan deal with an option to buy set at €22 million.
The agreement includes a loan fee of around €2 million, with Roma covering the player’s full annual salary of approximately €3.7 million.
Bailey arrived in the Italian capital on Tuesday evening and was welcomed at Ciampino Airport by dozens of excited fans before heading to undergo medical examinations.
The 27-year-old winger is expected to link up with Gian Piero Gasperini’s squad once the final paperwork is completed.
The deal comes after a week of speculation over the transfer structure, with earlier reports suggesting different figures. Multiple outlets have now confirmed the finalized arrangement, which allows Roma to secure the player permanently next summer if he impresses.
Bailey spent four seasons in the Premier League with Aston Villa, making 110 appearances and registering 21 goals and 18 assists. Despite flashes of brilliance, his time in England was hampered by injuries and inconsistency. He now seeks a fresh start in Serie A, where his pace and creativity are expected to play a key role in Gasperini’s attacking system.
Roma, aiming to re-establish themselves among Italy’s top four, view Bailey as an important addition to their frontline alongside Paulo Dybala and Tammy Abraham. The club hopes the winger can be available for selection soon as they prepare to begin their Serie A campaign.
