ADC Condemns Threats, Intimidation Campaign Against Aregbesola

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has denounced a perceived plot to intimidate former Interior Minister, Rauf Aregbesola, following his defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the ADC, where he now serves as national secretary.
According to ADC’s spokesman, Bolaji Abdullahi, the campaign against Aregbesola is driven by fear of his growing influence and an attempt to cast him as a traitor to the Yoruba people.
Abdullahi described this effort as “sheer perfidy” and emphasized that Aregbesola’s decision to join the ADC is a democratic right that shouldn’t be met with hostility.
The ADC cited a recent incident where Aregbesola’s campaign rally in Sagamu, Ogun State, was disrupted, and his supporters were dispersed by police operatives.
Aregbesola’s loyalists have also raised concerns about an alleged plot to eliminate him, pointing to inflammatory remarks made by some individuals, including Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Igboho.
Abdullahi drew parallels between Aregbesola’s situation and former President Bola Tinubu’s confrontation with the Obasanjo administration, questioning why similar accusations of betrayal aren’t being levied against Aregbesola.
“No one challenged Obasanjo and his Federal Government more vociferously than BAT, who almost made Lagos State an alternative source of power—rightly so. Yet, no one accused BAT of treachery against the Yoruba race,” Abdullahi said.
The ADC emphasized that attempts to demonize Aregbesola and other Yoruba leaders in the opposition are undemocratic and detrimental to the region’s long-term interests.
“President BAT is not the South West, and the South West is not him,” Abdullahi stated, urging an end to the intimidation campaign.
