Sébastien Haller Seals Permanent Return to Utrecht from Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund striker, Sébastien Haller has completed a permanent transfer to Dutch side FC Utrecht, marking a return to the club where he first made his name in European football.

The move was confirmed on Monday, with both clubs reaching an agreement that sees the Ivorian international end his two-year spell in Germany.

Haller had joined Dortmund in 2022 from Ajax but struggled to secure regular playing time after a difficult period marked by injury setbacks and health challenges.

The 31-year-old forward previously played for Utrecht between 2015 and 2017, scoring 51 goals in all competitions before earning a move to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga.

His return is expected to bolster Utrecht’s attacking options as the club looks to strengthen ahead of the new Eredivisie season.

Speaking on the transfer, Utrecht officials expressed excitement over welcoming back a familiar face who had once been a key figure for the club. “Haller is not just a proven goalscorer but also a player who understands the culture of our team. We are delighted to have him home,” the club stated.

For Dortmund, the deal marks the end of Haller’s brief stay in North Rhine-Westphalia. While his spell included some memorable moments, the Ivorian was unable to fully replicate the prolific form that once made him one of Europe’s most sought-after strikers.

Haller is expected to join Utrecht immediately to begin preparations with his new teammates.
