EFCC Raids Hotel Inside Obasanjo Library, Arrests 93 Suspected Internet Fraudsters

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 93 suspected internet fraudsters in a raid on the Green Legacy Hotel, located within the premises of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja. He said the operation was carried out in the early hours of the day following credible intelligence linking the suspects to various cybercrime activities.
“Items recovered from the suspects include 54 smartphones, eight laptops, and several luxury cars. The individuals are currently undergoing profiling, and they will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” Oyewale stated.
The EFCC has in recent months intensified its crackdown on cybercrime in the South-West region, with several high-profile raids targeting hotels, lounges, and private residences believed to be used as operational bases for “Yahoo Yahoo” activities.
The Green Legacy Hotel, which serves as the hospitality arm of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library complex, is a known venue for conferences, events, and tourist visits. There is no indication that the management of the hotel or the library was directly involved in the alleged crimes.
The EFCC urged hotel operators and property owners to be vigilant and conduct proper background checks on guests to avoid their facilities being used as safe havens for criminal activities.
This development comes amid growing concerns over the rising number of young Nigerians involved in cybercrime, despite government and private sector campaigns promoting legitimate online and tech-based ventures.
