Former Abia Deputy Governor, Ude Oko Chukwu Resigns from PDP

Former Deputy Governor of Abia State, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ending his long association with the party.
In a resignation letter dated August 5, 2025, and addressed to the chairman of Ndi Elu Ward in Nkporo, Ohafia Local Government Area, Oko Chukwu cited personal reasons for his decision. He expressed gratitude to the PDP for the platform and opportunities it provided him over the years.
His exit from the party comes shortly after a courtesy visit to Governor Alex Otti, during which he publicly endorsed the governor for a second term in 2027, saying Otti had “earned himself re-election.”
The endorsement reportedly drew criticism from PDP stakeholders in the state and led to his removal from several party groups.
While Oko Chukwu has not disclosed his next political move, his recent engagement with the Otti administration has fuelled speculation about a possible alignment with the Labour Party.
Oko Chukwu served as deputy governor of Abia State between 2015 and 2023 under former Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.
