No Opposition At Present,’ APC Chair Discountenances PDP, LP, ADC Influence

Nentawe Yilwatda, the newly appointed Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has dismissed the significance and potency of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Labour Party (LP), and the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
“There is no opposition at present,” he remarked nonchalantly during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme, shortly after his ascension to the position of chairman of the ruling party in Abuja.
The former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs expressed confidence that the APC harbors no apprehensions regarding the opposition parties, asserting that they have faltered in off-season gubernatorial elections following the 2023 general elections in Edo, Ondo, Kogi, and Imo states, where the APC secured victories in all four contests.
Thus far in 2025, two governors have defected from the PDP to the APC — Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State and his counterpart from Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori. Presently, the APC governs 23 states, the PDP presides over 10 states, while the Labour Party (LP), the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) each administer one state.
