Labour Party Rules Out Coalition for 2027 Elections
The Julius Abure-led Labour Party has firmly ruled out participating in any political coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
This decision was announced during a press briefing held after the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Monday in Abuja. The resolutions from the meeting were signed by the National Chairman, Julius Abure, and the National Secretary, Alhaji Farouk Ibrahim.
The NEC meeting had in attendance members of the National Working Committee, other national officers, and Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, who served as the party’s vice-presidential candidate in the 2023 elections.
Speaking at the briefing, Abure stated, “NEC in session reiterates that Labour Party will not be part of any coalition for the 2027 general election. NEC believes the 2023 coalition was more impactful than any other. We will rebuild, reconcile, and consolidate the gains of that election.”
He further emphasized that the Labour Party remains ideologically distinct, with a clear philosophy and set of programmes focused on addressing Nigeria’s pressing socio-economic challenges.
The declaration signals a strategic shift for the party as it prepares to stand independently in 2027, banking on its rising popularity and a growing base of support across the country.
