Adeleke Relaxed Curfew in Crisis-Hit Ifon, Ilobu, Erin Osun

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has approved the immediate relaxation of the curfew earlier imposed on the crisis-hit communities of Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin Osun.
The decision, according to a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, was based on positive security reports from the affected areas, indicating a significant return to peace.
The revised curfew now runs from 12 midnight to 4 a.m. daily, effective Saturday, July 19, 2025. This marks a further easing of restrictions that were initially imposed as a round-the-clock curfew in the wake of deadly communal clashes that claimed several lives and led to the destruction of property.
Governor Adeleke, in the statement obtained in Osogbo, noted that while the curfew remains in place until peace is fully restored, the current review was a reflection of the improved security situation.
“Following the return of peace in the warring communities of Ifon-Ilobu-Erin Osun, it gladdens my heart, as the Chief Security Officer of Osun State, to direct that the hitherto 9 pm–6 am curfew will now be between 12 midnight and 4 am of the following day,” the governor stated.
He expressed appreciation to the traditional rulers of the communities—the Olufon of Ifon, the Olobu of Ilobu, and the Elerin of Erin Osun—as well as other stakeholders, for their roles in restoring calm to the area.
“I urge you to please keep it up,” Adeleke said, while cautioning against any actions that could reignite tensions. “Let it be known that the government will not hesitate to deal decisively with anyone found fomenting trouble.”
Governor Adeleke also called on the 100-man Boundaries Resolution Committee, set up to address the root causes of the clashes, particularly land disputes, to expedite their work and ensure lasting peace among the communities.
The curfew was first imposed following violent outbreaks in the three towns over boundary disputes, prompting state intervention and military deployment to de-escalate tensions.
With this latest curfew adjustment, residents are expected to enjoy more freedom of movement, while security operatives continue to monitor the situation closely to prevent further unrest.
