Sanwo-Olu Inaugurates Maiden LG Owned Radio Station

Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has commissioned Nigeria’s first-ever local government-owned radio station, marking a significant milestone in grassroots communication and governance.
The new station, Ishokan 106.7 FM, is owned and operated by Mushin Local Government in Lagos State and was officially launched on Thursday as part of a series of developmental projects executed by the council chairman, Hon. Emmanuel Olanrewaju Bamigboye.
Representing the Governor at the commissioning ceremony, Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat hailed the initiative as a laudable and innovative step in effective governance and information dissemination.
According to a statement shared via the official Facebook page of the Lagos State Government, Sanwo-Olu described the station’s launch as a “worthy example” for other local government areas across Nigeria to follow.
“It’s always good to communicate with our people,” said Governor Sanwo-Olu. “We must appreciate the Chairman of Mushin Local Government for building these notable projects. From bringing together federal agencies in one place, to establishing this radio station and commissioning other vital infrastructure like roads and markets—these are achievements even some states struggle to deliver.”
The Governor emphasized that Ishokan 106.7 FM will serve as a vital tool for bridging the communication gap between government and the people at the grassroots level, enhancing civic engagement and fostering a more informed community.
Sanwo-Olu also linked the achievement to the broader successes of the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration in Lagos, citing ongoing infrastructure development in education, health, and administration across the state.
“As roads are being commissioned, so are primary healthcare centres, schools, administrative blocks, and more. This implies that our party is a progressive one,” he noted.
He further urged residents to remain politically active by securing their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), stressing that the prosperity of the nation rests on continued support for ongoing reforms and policies championed by the APC at the federal level.
Chairman Bamigboye also used the occasion to highlight other projects executed in Mushin, which include new market facilities, road rehabilitations, and a centralized federal agency complex, all aimed at improving the lives of residents and boosting local development.
The launch of Ishokan 106.7 FM not only positions Lagos as a trailblazer in local governance innovation but also underscores the growing role of community media in promoting transparency, accountability, and citizen engagement in Nigeria.
