FG Partners Hello Tractor to Set up Mechanisation Hub in Nassarawa

The Federal Government has partnered with Hello Tractor and Heifer International Nigeria to launch a mechanization hub in Lafia, Nasarawa State capital, to boost agricultural productivity and food security.

The initiative, anchored on a Pay-As-You-Go model, aims to make mechanized farming more accessible to rural farmers.

At the launch, 10 GPS-enabled tractors fitted with Internet-of-Things devices were handed over to support smallholder farmers across the state.

The project is expected to support over 20,000 hectares of farmland and create employment opportunities for booking agents, tractor operators, and technicians, many of whom are young people trained to manage and maintain the digital infrastructure.

Hello Tractor’s Country Managing Director, Dr. Nneka Enwonwu, described the hub as a bold step forward in private-sector-led agricultural transformation, emphasizing the importance of integrating technology to make mechanization work for smallholder farmers.

She stated that the model is working and it’s time to scale it.

Heifer International Nigeria’s Country Director, Dr. Lekan Tobe, noted that the Pay-As-You-Go model eliminates financial barriers to mechanized farming services, empowering farmers to cultivate more, increase yields, and boost their income and resilience.

The project is expected to strengthen rural value chains and encourage youth to see agriculture as a viable livelihood.

Nasarawa State Commissioner for Agriculture, Umar Tunga, described the launch as a “critical milestone” for the state and the entire country, saying it’s more than just a tractor handover, but an architecture of hope and a new future for farmers, youth, and rural economies.

The partnership aims to promote agricultural development, food security, and economic growth in Nasarawa State and Nigeria as a whole. By providing accessible and affordable mechanization services, the project is expected to benefit smallholder farmers and contribute to the country’s economic development.
