Military Neutralises Top Terror Commanders, Arrests 1,191 Suspects in Q2 Operations DHQ

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has announced the elimination of scores of notorious terrorist leaders and the arrest of 1,191 suspected criminals across various theatres of operation between April and June 2025.

Major General Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations, disclosed this during a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, highlighting the achievements of the Nigerian Armed Forces in the second quarter of the year.

According to Kangye, troops under different operational commands, including Operation Hadin Kai, Operation Fagge Yamma, Operation Safe Haven, Operation UDO KA, and Operation Delta Safe, demonstrated exceptional commitment and success in their missions.

Among the high-profile terrorists killed were Amir Abu Fatimah, Kinging Auta, Abdul Jamilu, Salisu, Mallam Jidda, Maiwada, Mai Dada, and Nwachi Eze, also known as Onowu notorious figures who have long featured on security watchlists for their roles in insurgency and banditry across Nigeria.

Kangye further revealed that one of the most feared bandit leaders, Yellow Danbokkolo, died from injuries he sustained in an intense battle with troops last week. “Just two days ago, Yellow Danbokkolo succumbed to the wounds he suffered during an engagement with our forces in which several of his lieutenants were also neutralised,” he said.

The military’s multi-theatre operations during the quarter resulted not only in high-value neutralisations but also in the rescue of kidnapped victims, recovery of arms and ammunition, and the dismantling of terrorist camps and logistics hubs.

The DHQ commended the dedication of troops and reaffirmed the Armed Forces’ commitment to restoring peace and security across the country. Kangye urged citizens to continue supporting the military by providing credible information that could aid operations.

“The fight against terrorism and criminality is a collective responsibility,” he stressed. “Our successes are a testament to what we can achieve when the armed forces and citizens work hand in hand.”
