Enugu Police Arrest Seven Suspected Cultists, Recover Illegal Firearms

The Enugu State Police Command has successfully apprehended seven individuals suspected of cultism and illegal possession of firearms. The arrests were made during a series of operations conducted across the state between June 15 and 21.

According to the Command’s spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, the suspects were arrested in Enugu North, Nkanu West, and 9th Mile areas, following credible intelligence. Seven guns, ammunition, and firearm repair tools were recovered during the operations.

One of the suspects, Yusuf John, was arrested on Saturday at 9th Mile with a cut-to-size double-barreled gun and an expended cartridge. He confessed to being a member of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity and using the firearm for various crimes.

In a separate operation, a 22-year-old suspect, Ugwualor Obumneke, was arrested after a confession from Onah Uchenna, who had been arrested for alleged armed robbery and cultism. Firearms and repair tools were recovered from her.

The Police Commissioner, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, commended the operatives for their efforts and vowed to rid the state of criminal elements. The suspects will be arraigned upon completion of ongoing investigations.

The Command’s crackdown on cultism and illegal firearms is part of its efforts to maintain law and order in the state. The operations were carried out by tactical units of the Command, including the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad and other tactical teams.
