Ouattara Nominated as Ruling Party’s Candidate in Ivory Coast 2025 Elections

Ivory Coast’s ruling party has nominated President Alassane Ouattara as its candidate for the 2025 presidential election. The decision was made at a party congress in Abidjan, despite opposition from critics who accuse Ouattara of authoritarian tendencies.

The nomination comes after the country’s two main opposition parties formed a coalition to challenge Ouattara’s potential candidacy. The opposition parties argue that Ouattara’s bid for a fourth term would be a power grab.

Ouattara, 83, has not yet confirmed whether he will accept the nomination. However, his supporters are eager for him to continue leading the country, citing his economic achievements and stability.

The president’s party, Rally of Houphouetists for Democracy and Peace (RHDP), hailed Ouattara’s leadership, highlighting the country’s economic growth and progress. Ivory Coast has experienced steady economic growth under Ouattara’s leadership, making it an attractive destination for investment.

However, critics argue that Ouattara’s administration has become increasingly authoritarian, pointing to the exclusion of prominent opposition figures from the upcoming election. Former President Laurent Gbagbo and other notable politicians have been barred from running, sparking concerns about the fairness of the electoral process.

The opposition’s coalition aims to challenge Ouattara’s potential candidacy and ensure a more inclusive electoral process. The situation remains tense, with Ouattara’s supporters eagerly awaiting his decision on whether to run for another term.
