AY Apologises After Payment Dispute Disrupts Cardiff Show, Calls for Ticket Refunds
Nigerian comedian and actor, Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, has apologised to fans after a payment dispute disrupted the Cardiff leg of his UK comedy tour, leaving most ticket holders without the performances they had paid to see.
AY said the unresolved payment commitments prevented him and other comedians from taking the stage at the scheduled time, and by the time they were able to access the performance hall, most members of the audience had already left.
The incident occurred on Sunday, October 25, during the Cardiff stop of his “AY Live: Single and Not Searching” UK tour at Valegate Retail Park in Cardiff, Wales.
In a statement released on Monday, October 26, AY acknowledged the frustration of attendees and urged the event organisers and UK tour management to provide affected ticket holders with clear information about refunds.
He said he and the other performers had travelled to Cardiff and reached the venue, but the unresolved financial commitments caused delays that ultimately prevented the show from proceeding as planned.
According to the comedian, the situation was beyond what the audience should have been subjected to, stressing that ticket holders should not have been caught up in a dispute involving payments to performers.
He apologised to those who attended the event and said the show should have been better organised, with timely communication provided to the audience when problems arose.
AY also directed fans to a video in which he gave his account of what happened, asking them to consider his explanation before drawing conclusions about the disruption.
He further appealed to the organisers and tour management to address the concerns of affected customers and communicate the refund process to those who purchased tickets.
The comedian said any verified updates concerning the Cardiff show would be communicated through his official social media platforms.
The disruption generated complaints from attendees online, with some reporting extended delays, uncertainty and confusion at the venue.
As of Monday, no specific refund arrangement had been announced by the organisers, while the event management had yet to issue a detailed public account of the circumstances that led to the cancellation or disruption of the performances.
Despite the incident in Cardiff, AY said the remaining dates on his UK tour would proceed as scheduled.
The tour is expected to continue in Birmingham on October 30, followed by a London performance on October 31 and the final announced date in Manchester on November 1.
AY thanked his supporters for their continued backing throughout his more than two decades in the entertainment industry, saying he remained committed to preserving the relationship and trust he had built with his audience.
For Cardiff ticket holders, however, the immediate issue remains unresolved, with fans awaiting further communication from the event organisers and tour management on refunds and the next steps.
