Oyo Accord Candidate Hamzat Visits Police Headquarters Days After Attack on Supporters
The governorship candidate of the Accord Party in Oyo State, Oriyomi Hamzat, has led members of his campaign council on a courtesy visit to the Oyo State Police Command headquarters.
The visit came less than a week after an attack on his supporters in Ibadan claimed one life.
His campaign spokesperson, Samuel Kehinde Ibikunle, confirmed the Tuesday visit in a statement. On October 14, suspected hoodlums attacked supporters who were welcoming Hamzat back from the United Kingdom around Molete Under Bridge in Ibadan South-West Local Government Area.
A 40-year-old man, Azeez Tajudeen, was fatally injured in the incident, which occurred shortly after the supporters left Molete heading towards Iwo Road where Hamzat’s Agidigbo FM is located. The state police command confirmed the death.
During the meeting, Hamzat thanked the police for their swift response to the attack and commended the leadership of Commissioner of Police Abimbola Olugbenga for efforts to maintain peace and order.
He stressed the need for continued collaboration between political actors and security agencies as campaigns intensify.
Hamzat requested police support to ensure his campaign activities, including rallies across the 33 local government areas of Oyo State, take place peacefully. In response, the CP assured him of a level playing field for all parties, reaffirmed the Force’s neutrality, and urged stakeholders to give at least 48 hours’ notice before processions to allow for proper security arrangements.
