The Federal Government has announced plans to provide students across the country with 100 megabytes of free internet data daily beginning from October 1.

The initiative is aimed at improving access to digital learning resources, supporting research activities and enhancing the use of technology in education.

Officials said the programme forms part of broader efforts to expand digital inclusion and ensure that students can access educational content regardless of their financial circumstances.

According to the government, the free data package is expected to benefit students in tertiary institutions and other eligible educational establishments nationwide.

The initiative is also intended to encourage online learning, boost digital literacy and provide students with easier access to academic materials, virtual classrooms and educational platforms.

Authorities noted that increased internet access would help bridge the digital divide and create more opportunities for students to participate in the knowledge-based economy.

Implementation guidelines and eligibility requirements are expected to be released ahead of the programme’s commencement date.

The government expressed optimism that the initiative will support learning outcomes and contribute to the ongoing digital transformation of Nigeria’s education sector.
