The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Joash Amupitan, has assured Nigerians that the commission will remain neutral and will not give preferential treatment to any candidate or political party in the 2027 general elections.

Amupitan said the electoral body is committed to conducting free, fair and credible elections, stressing that its loyalty lies solely with the Constitution, the Electoral Act and the will of the Nigerian electorate.

He noted that INEC’s responsibility is to ensure that every eligible voter is given the opportunity to participate in the democratic process without interference or bias.

According to him, the commission is focused on strengthening public confidence in the electoral system through transparency, professionalism and strict adherence to electoral laws.

The INEC chairman also emphasised the importance of neutrality among all institutions involved in the electoral process, including security agencies and election officials.

He urged political parties, candidates and supporters to conduct their activities peacefully and comply with established electoral guidelines.

Amupitan further called on Nigerians to actively participate in the electoral process, warning that voter apathy remains a major challenge to democratic development.

He stated that the commission has continued to improve its operational and technological systems to enhance election credibility and ensure that votes accurately reflect the choices of the electorate.

The INEC boss expressed confidence in the commission’s preparations for future elections, assuring citizens that necessary measures are being put in place to guarantee a transparent and trustworthy electoral process.

He reiterated that INEC’s objective is to deliver elections that inspire public confidence and strengthen Nigeria’s democratic institutions ahead of the 2027 polls.
