Troops Foil Bandit Attack in Plateau, Rescue Gunshot Victim
Troops of Sector 4, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), have foiled an attack on Nyerwai and Rayidi communities in Fan District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident occurred at about 11:05 p.m. on Wednesday, August 12, after troops stationed at Dorowa Babuje responded to reports of sporadic gunshots in the affected communities.
A military source said the troops arrived at the scene and found the body of a 37-year-old man, identified as Danya Nuhu.
The soldiers also rescued a 28-year-old man, Abednego Davou, who had sustained gunshot injuries. Three cattle reportedly injured by bullets were also recovered during the operation.
Preliminary investigations indicated that suspected armed militias carried out the attack before fleeing into the surrounding area as the troops approached.
Davou was evacuated to the General Hospital, Barkin Ladi, where he is receiving medical treatment.
Security forces have commenced efforts to locate and apprehend the fleeing attackers, while troops continue to intensify patrols across the OPEP Joint Operations Area.
The military said the increased security presence is particularly focused on vulnerable communities, schools, places of worship and other critical infrastructure as part of efforts to prevent further attacks and maintain peace in the area.
