EKEDP Blames Cable Vandalism and Transmission Upgrades for FESTAC Power Outage
Eko Electricity Distribution Plc has attributed the prolonged power outage in FESTAC Town, Amuwo Odofin and nearby communities to ongoing transmission upgrades and persistent vandalism of underground cables.
The company said the two factors have combined to disrupt electricity supply in the area.
According to EKEDP, the FESTAC axis records the highest cases of underground cable vandalism across its network. Officials noted that while transmission improvement works are the main cause of the outages, repeated acts of vandalism have made the situation worse.
The company has completed and commissioned a new feeder known as FESTAC 3. This feeder will provide an alternative power source from the Ojo Transmission Station once final load-balancing arrangements and necessary approvals are secured.
Supply on one of the existing feeders has been partially restored after engineers isolated a faulty cable. Restoration work continues daily, and the company said it has invested hundreds of millions of naira to strengthen the network in the area.
EKEDP has reported the vandalism cases to the Lagos State Police Command, with some suspects already arrested. The company appealed to residents to remain calm and engage through proper channels while efforts continue to restore stable electricity supply.
