Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf has declared that his administration is fully prepared to establish and maintain a state police force once the necessary constitutional and legal frameworks are enacted.

Speaking through a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, during the inauguration of the Inter-Agencies Task Force on Drug Abuse and Trafficking in Kano, Governor Yusuf emphasized that the state possesses the institutional capacity, human resources, and political will to operate a decentralized security outfit.

He clarified that a state police force would serve as a complementary partner rather than a competitor to the Nigeria Police Force. Both entities would collaborate to strengthen intelligence gathering, accelerate emergency responses, and bolster public confidence in law enforcement across the state. Reaffirming his support for nationwide security reforms, the governor noted that sub-national policing is vital for safeguarding lives and property and addressing local security challenges effectively.
