The family of a 31-year-old filmmaker and makeup artist, Khalid Wahid, has called for justice following his alleged abduction and killing by gunmen in Dong community, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Wahid was reportedly taken from his residence on the night of July 18 after armed men stormed the area despite the house being located a short distance from the Dong Police Station. Residents said the attackers exchanged gunfire with security personnel before fleeing with the victim.

Friends of the deceased said neighbours became alarmed after hearing gunshots and contacted Wahid, who reportedly told them he believed the attackers were about to enter his home.

According to eyewitness accounts, some of the gunmen allegedly fired towards the nearby police station while others surrounded the house, cut through its security fencing and forced their way inside before taking Wahid away.

One of his friends said the victim appeared to have resisted the attackers, adding that his mobile phone was later recovered at the scene while other valuables, including his vehicle, laptop and cash, were left untouched.

Security operatives reportedly launched a search after following bloodstains leading from the house into a nearby bush, where Wahid’s body was later discovered. He was subsequently taken to hospital before being buried in accordance with Islamic rites.

Friends disclosed that Wahid had previously survived kidnapping attempts, including an abduction in 2023 that reportedly led to the arrest of suspects, as well as another attempted attack in late 2025, after which he reinforced the security of his home.

Residents said the killing has heightened concerns over persistent kidnappings in the Dong community, with several calling on authorities to strengthen security and dismantle criminal groups operating in the area.

Following the incident, family members, friends and residents staged a peaceful protest demanding justice for the deceased and urging security agencies to intensify patrols and investigate those responsible for the attack.

The spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, Alfred Alabo, did not respond to requests for comment at the time of filing this report.

The incident comes amid renewed security concerns across Plateau State, where several communities have recorded attacks and kidnappings in recent weeks, prompting fresh calls for stronger security measures to protect vulnerable residents.
