Troops of Sector 1, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), working in close collaboration with local hunters, have successfully rescued a kidnapped victim during a targeted security operation along the Benue–Nasarawa border.

Security sources confirmed that the joint rescue operation was executed at approximately 7:31 a.m. on Friday, July 17, 2026, by military personnel deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Torkula.

The victim was freed at Ornan, a border community straddling Benue and Nasarawa states, following intense operational pressure mounted by the joint security team on suspected kidnappers operating within the area’s forest corridors.

Upon being rescued from the scene, the individual was immediately evacuated to a medical facility for preliminary physical evaluation and necessary treatment.

Military authorities affirmed that troops are continuing to intensify clearance operations and maintain an active presence across vulnerable border communities to deny armed groups freedom of movement, eliminate criminal hideouts, and ensure the safety of residents in the region.
