Troops Foil Terrorist Ambush in Zamfara, Rescue Herders, Recover 520 Livestock in Sokoto
Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, have recorded major successes against terrorists in Zamfara and Sokoto states.
The operations took place on 28 October 2026 and demonstrated the force’s continued efforts to protect lives and property in the region.
In Zamfara, troops of Sector 2 were conducting a fighting patrol to clear the Anka–Guruzu Road when they came under a coordinated ambush by terrorists positioned on both sides of the road. The soldiers responded with superior firepower, fought through the attack and forced the terrorists to withdraw in disarray. One soldier sustained a gunshot injury and was evacuated for medical treatment. He is now in stable condition.
After the encounter, the troops dominated the road and restored free movement for commuters. The operation helped clear the area of terrorist presence and improved security along the route.
In a separate operation in Sokoto State, troops foiled an attempt by terrorists to rustle livestock and abduct herders at Takasaba Village in Sabon Birni Local Government Area. Acting on credible intelligence, the soldiers moved swiftly to the scene, engaged the attackers and forced them to flee.
The terrorists abandoned 520 rustled livestock and two abducted herders, who were successfully rescued. The military described the dual successes as evidence of its determination to restore lasting peace across the joint operations area.
