A woman believed to be a relative of a suspected ISWAP fighter and her child have surrendered to troops of Operation HADIN KAI after fleeing a terrorist enclave in the Sambisa Forest, Borno State.

Security sources said the pair arrived at the 26 Task Force Brigade Garrison in Gwoza Local Government Area at about noon on July 17 after escaping from the Gobara enclave within the forest.

According to sources, the woman and her child fled the terrorist camp on their own before making their way to the military location, where they voluntarily surrendered to the troops.

The military has since commenced profiling and preliminary screening of the two in line with standard procedures to establish their status and gather any intelligence that could assist ongoing counter-insurgency operations.

Military authorities said the latest surrender underscores the continued impact of sustained offensives against terrorist strongholds in the Sambisa Forest, noting that increased military pressure has continued to force insurgents and their family members to abandon the enclaves and surrender to security forces.
