Troops of Operation PEACE Enduring Peace (OPEP) have recovered a locally fabricated firearm and ammunition during a fighting patrol targeting suspected terrorist hideouts in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Security sources said the operation was carried out at about 5 p.m. on July 18 in the Agingi–Dogon Dutse mountainous axis by troops drawn from Sectors 1 and 3 of the operation.

According to sources, the soldiers stormed a suspected terrorist hideout where they recovered one locally fabricated rifle and four rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition during a search of the area.

No arrests were made during the operation, as those occupying the hideout were believed to have fled before the troops arrived.

Military authorities said the raid is part of ongoing operations aimed at denying terrorists and other criminal elements the use of remote mountainous areas as safe havens. They added that troops will sustain patrols and clearance operations across vulnerable communities in Plateau State to strengthen security and prevent criminal activities.
