ICPC Chairman Asserts Nigeria Cannot Achieve Lasting Peace Without Tackling Corruption
The Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, has declared that Nigeria cannot achieve lasting peace if corruption is not effectively tackled. Addressing members of the Students’ Anti-Corruption Club at Yahaya Abdulkarim Girls Day Secondary School in Sokoto, the ICPC boss emphasized that allowing corruption to flourish inevitably prevents the cultivation of a peaceful and stable society.
He explained that because the fight against corruption cannot be won through arrest, investigation, or prosecution alone, the nation must aggressively address both structural and behavioral problems from the grassroots level.
To achieve this, Dr. Aliyu urged educators to lead by example, instill strong moral values in young people, and nurture children to be courageous, honest, and resilient.
He noted that children easily emulate the conduct of their elders and will perceive corrupt actions as acceptable if they are not guided properly. The ICPC chairman also encouraged the students to study hard, reject examination malpractices, and look beyond their socioeconomic backgrounds, noting that they could achieve great heights in public service just as he did coming from a modest background.
Echoing the anti-graft agency’s educational approach, the school’s principal, Mrs. Murjanatu Muhammad, expressed appreciation for the chairman’s visit and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to instilling integrity and good character in its students. By targeting young minds and building an ethical foundation within classrooms, the commission aims to raise a new generation of leaders who will reject dishonest practices and build a more secure, just, and prosperous nation.
