NNPC Looks Beyond Oil, Targets Energy Mix Growth, Says Ojulari

The Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Bayo Ojulari, has said the company is repositioning itself from being solely an oil and gas producer to becoming a platform that fosters investment, technology, policy, talent and market development across Nigeria and Africa.

Ojulari disclosed this in a statement on Monday while reflecting on NNPC Ltd.‘s participation at the 2026 Nigeria Oil and Gas Energy Week, where the company outlined its strategy for strengthening partnerships and supporting the long-term growth of Africa’s energy sector.

The annual conference, regarded as Nigeria’s leading energy industry gathering, brought together policymakers, regulators, investors, international and indigenous oil companies, as well as technology providers to discuss energy security, investment, gas development, decarbonisation and the future of Africa’s energy industry.

This year’s edition centred on promoting collaboration and attracting fresh investment into the sector amid the Federal Government’s ongoing energy reforms.

According to Ojulari, NNPC Ltd.’s transformation is driven by a vision that extends beyond hydrocarbon production.

Reflecting on the event, he expressed satisfaction with the company’s engagement, noting that discussions held throughout the conference reinforced its strategic direction.

“We no longer view NNPC Limited as merely an energy producer, but as an ecosystem builder, connecting capital, technology, policy, talent and markets to create lasting value for Nigeria and Africa,” he said.

Ojulari explained that the new outlook would guide the company’s efforts to deepen industry partnerships and unlock investment opportunities across the energy value chain.

He added that the shift in identity would serve as the foundation for NNPC Ltd.‘s drive to accelerate sustainable energy development and support Africa’s long-term energy prosperity.

To highlight the company’s participation at the conference, Ojulari also shared a video showcasing NNPC Ltd.’s activities and engagements during the week-long event.

Since becoming a commercially oriented company under the Petroleum Industry Act, NNPC Ltd. has pursued strategic collaborations, improved operational efficiency and strengthened its role in Africa’s evolving energy landscape.

The Federal Government has continued to identify the energy sector as a key pillar of economic growth, with reforms aimed at attracting investment, increasing oil and gas production, expanding domestic gas utilisation and reinforcing Nigeria’s position as a leading energy hub on the continent. NNPC Ltd. remains central to implementing many of these initiatives through partnerships with local and international stakeholders.
