Tinubu Made Right Choice in Retaining Shettima as VP, Says Abbas

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has congratulated Vice President Kashim Shettima following his renomination as the All Progressives Congress (APC) vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, describing the decision as a testament to Shettima’s loyalty, competence and dedication to national service.

Abbas also praised President Bola Tinubu for retaining Shettima as his running mate, saying the move demonstrated the President’s confidence in the Vice President and positioned the APC more strongly ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The Speaker’s position was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Krishi.

According to Abbas, Shettima has remained a reliable deputy and trusted partner since the Tinubu administration assumed office in May 2023, contributing to the government’s focus on improving the welfare of Nigerians.

He said the President’s decision reflected “extraordinary leadership and astute political judgment,” adding that Tinubu’s trust in Shettima had remained unwavering.

Abbas expressed confidence that the ruling party would perform strongly in the next presidential election, stating that the retention of Shettima had further improved the APC’s chances of victory.

He also called on party leaders and members across the country to intensify grassroots mobilisation and broaden the APC’s support base in preparation for the polls.

Shettima’s renomination was formally confirmed by the APC on Friday after the party’s National Working Committee received the nomination forms of President Tinubu and the Vice President from the President’s Special Adviser on Political Matters, Ibrahim Masari, ahead of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s deadline for the submission of presidential and vice-presidential candidates.
