10 Die, Six Injured in Lagos-ibadan Express Crash

A tragic road accident on Sunday night led to the death of 10 people and left six others injured along the popular Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.

The crash took place right on the Saapade Bridge around 8:05 in the evening. It involved a big white transport truck and a white Toyota passenger bus that was carrying travelers down the highway.

Road safety officers explained that the crash happened because the truck driver made a very dangerous mistake. After missing his exit, the driver decided to put his heavy truck in reverse right on the fast lane instead of driving ahead to find a safe place to turn. The passenger bus was coming down the road at a normal highway speed and tried to swerve past, but it ended up slamming hard into the back of the reversing truck.

There were 18 people inside the passenger bus during the collision. Sadly, nine men and one young boy lost their lives on the spot due to the force of the impact. Another six passengers—four men and two women—sustained serious injuries, while two lucky individuals managed to walk away from the ruined bus without any hurts at all.

Emergency teams rushed to the scene to help the survivors and clear the highway. They took the six injured victims to a nearby hospital in Ogere so they could get medical care right away, while the bodies of those who passed away were moved to a local mortuary. The police also stepped in to move the damaged vehicles off the road so that traffic could start moving again.

After the sad event, traffic authorities reminded all drivers to stop taking dangerous shortcuts on the highway. They stressed that reversing on a main road or speeding to make up for lost time puts everyone at risk. They urged drivers to always stay patient and drive to the next proper junction if they ever miss their way, so everyone can get home safely.
