Troops Repel Terrorist Attacks in Katsina, Zamfara, Rescue Abducted District Head

Troops of the Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have repelled multiple terrorist attacks, rescued an abducted district head and recovered arms and other equipment during coordinated operations in Katsina and Zamfara states.

The military said the operations, conducted on Wednesday, July 2, dealt another blow to terrorist groups operating across the North-West, with several terrorists neutralised and weapons recovered.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, troops of Sector 2 engaged terrorists on fighting patrol between Amara and Chakau Junction in Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State after the gunmen opened fire on sighting the advancing troops.

The troops responded with superior firepower, forcing the terrorists to flee and abandon one AK-47 rifle, a magazine loaded with eight rounds of ammunition and two motorcycles.

In a separate operation around Sabon Garin and Dantakeri villages in Dutsinma Local Government Area, troops, working with other security agencies and local vigilantes, responded to a terrorist attack and neutralised one of the assailants during the exchange of gunfire.

The statement added that troops also rescued the District Head of Farin Hawa Village, Mr. Mubarak Sharin, who was abducted by armed terrorists riding on several motorcycles during an attack on the community in Malumfashi Local Government Area.

According to the military, troops, in collaboration with other security agencies, pursued the fleeing attackers, made contact with them and neutralised one terrorist before successfully rescuing the traditional ruler.

In Zamfara State, troops of Sector 2 repelled an attack on their position at Dauran in Bukkuyum Local Government Area.

The military said reinforcements joined the troops during the firefight, forcing the attackers to retreat while leaving behind one AK-47 rifle, four magazines, 35 rounds of ammunition, a bandolier and a hydration pack.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA commended the courage and professionalism of its personnel as well as the support of collaborating security agencies during the operations.

The task force reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist groups while working closely with communities to improve security and protect lives and property across the North-West.
