Depot Nigerian Army Osogbo Pledges Transparent Probe into Misconduct Allegations

The Headquarters of Depot Nigerian Army, Osogbo, has reaffirmed its commitment to a thorough and transparent investigation into allegations of misconduct involving some recently passed-out personnel, while stating that it has yet to receive any formal complaint or credible evidence to substantiate rape allegations circulating on social media.

The Army said the Board of Inquiry constituted to investigate the allegations remains at work and will ensure that anyone found culpable is sanctioned in accordance with the Armed Forces Act and other extant laws.

In a statement issued on Friday by the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Depot Nigerian Army Osogbo, Major Ibrahim Yahaya, the command stressed that it does not condone indiscipline and remains committed to professionalism throughout the investigation.

Addressing the rape allegations reportedly attributed to the Vice Chancellor of Osun State University, Professor Odunayo Clement Adebooye, the Army said it had not received any formal complaint, medical report or credible evidence from any alleged victim, witness or the university management to support the claims.

It described the allegations currently circulating on social media as unconfirmed and potentially misleading in the absence of verifiable evidence, urging the public to avoid actions or statements that could prejudice the ongoing investigation.

The Army appealed to any alleged victims of assault or sexual misconduct, as well as eyewitnesses with verifiable information, including videos, photographs, medical records or statements, to submit such evidence confidentially to the Board of Inquiry at the Headquarters, Depot Nigerian Army, Osogbo, or through the Army Public Relations Office.

According to the statement, the identities and safety of those who come forward will be protected in line with military and legal procedures.

The command also called on the media, the National Association of Nigerian Students, the management of Osun State University and the general public to refrain from spreading unverified information, warning that sensationalism and disinformation could hinder efforts to establish the truth and create unnecessary panic.

Depot Nigerian Army Osogbo reiterated its commitment to civil-military cooperation, the protection of students and the promotion of human rights, adding that the public would be updated as the investigation progresses.
