Court Grants Sowore N200 Million Bail
A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted a N200 million bail together with two sureties to Omoyele Sowore who serves as a human right activist, the publisher of Sahara Reporters and the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC).
The sureties, according to Justice Mohammed Umar’s ruling, must be a traditional ruler who hails from Sowore’s community in Ese Odo, a Local Government Area in Ondo state. The sureties must also include a landed property in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and must be verified by the prosecution counsel, Akinlolu Kehinde who is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
A court order was also given that submission of his international passport to the deputy chief registrar should be made by Sowore for proper safekeeping.
The human rights activist was remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre after his bail got revoked because of his absence at a scheduled trial date.
He was charged with cvbercrime and criminal defamation by the Department of State Services for referring to President Bola Tinubu as a criminal in posts made on social media.
